Adding to the “Perfect Pair”

Rosalynn and her husband already had two children. They called them “the perfect pair”—an eleven-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old son. When they were deciding to have a third child, Rosalynn secretly wanted four to make things even. Her husband wanted to see how number three went and go from there.

At her first ultrasound, she knew something felt strange. She felt too pregnant too early on, and she thought something was wrong. She was surprised and delighted when they learned they were keeping an even number.

High-Risk Specialists

Rosalynn and her husband chose to tell their birth story at The University of Tennessee Medical Center because they knew the reputation of the high-risk doctors there. Because she was 34 and she was carrying twins, having the expertise of high-risk physicians available was important to her.

“High-risk is scary because I’m only 34. People have kids much older. But twins in general, carrying two babies at a time, they want to know everything that’s going on. They prep you for everything you need to know. They do a full anatomy scan if there’s anything wrong with either baby.”

Life in a Private Room

Both of Rosalynn’s babies were rushed to the NICU after birth. Shortly after their initial stay, they were moved into a Private Twin NICU room. Rosalynn, her husband, and their two older children enjoyed the privacy of the room. It allowed them to enjoy the first few days of being a larger family.

“We didn’t have to look around at everyone else’s babies and start comparing sizes. We liked the privacy of it. We could just relax and not worry about anything else. It was our own family room. Like we were in our own home where we can bond with our babies.”
