Labor & Delivery Virtual Tour

Where to Go

Labor & Delivery is located on the third floor of the Boling/East Pavilion (the tallest building on our campus). The East elevators are directly across from the coffee shop in the main lobby. Take these to the third floor and follow the signs to Labor & Delivery. You will pick up the phone at the locked entrance and the nurses will direct you to a private OB Triage room for evaluation.

OB Triage

OB Triage is made up of 4 private rooms in the Labor and Delivery Department. It serves as the obstetric emergency room to evaluate pregnancy problems or to confirm active labor before you are admitted. Your doctor will tell you when to go to triage for evaluation and one support person may accompany you at this time. You may be evaluated in triage and sent home for follow up care with your regular doctor or you may be admitted for continued care. Once you move to an LDR Suite (Labor, Delivery, Recovery) you can have up to four visitors with physician approval.

Make Yourself at Home

Labor times can vary greatly, and we want you to be comfortable while you are here. If approved by your doctor, you’ll enjoy the benefit of wireless monitoring. This allows us to keep an eye on your baby’s heart rate and your contractions while giving you freedom to move around the unit. You’ll be able to move from your birthing bed to a chair, take a walk down the hall or labor in your shower. Birthing balls are also available for your use or you may choose to bring your own along with other comforts from home. We also have pull out sofas, extra blankets and pillows for your support person, rocking chairs, free movies and access to Wi-Fi for all your devices.

Our Team

Having your baby at a Regional Perinatal Center such as UT Medical Center gives you access to a highly skilled team including perinatologists (obstetricians who specialize in high risk pregnancies) and neonatologists (physicians who care for premature, ill or special needs infants).

Should a normal delivery turn into a complicated emergency, it is comforting to know that you are in the best place in the region to handle such emergencies. Fully equipped surgery suites are located adjacent to Labor & Delivery and you’ll have 24-hour availability to obstetric medications and anesthesia if desired. Should a C-section be needed, one support person may be with you in the operating room. A Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is also located on the same floor meaning your baby has access to an experienced neonatal team who work closely with the delivery team to assure healthy beginnings for your baby.
