The University of Tennessee Medical Center has opened the Orthopaedic Institute at the UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm. The Orthopaedic Institute, one of our Centers of Excellence, replaces the former Advanced Orthopaedic Center. A Center of Excellence is an area of health care specialization in a medical center that is recognized by the medical community as providing the highest level of care.

Collaborative Care Under One Roof

The institute is the result of a partnership with The University of Tennessee Medical Center, OrthoTennessee and University Orthopaedic Surgeons. The partnership allows the Center of Excellence to offer the most comprehensive orthopaedic care — including musculoskeletal research — in our area.

“The Orthopaedic Institute serves our patients with high-quality care delivered by experts in orthopaedics in a convenient location,” said Joe Landsman, president and CEO of The University of Tennessee Medical Center. “This partnership with OrthoTennessee and University Orthopaedic Surgeons combines outstanding orthopaedic clinical and surgical knowledge with a research collaboration to address the growing needs of our community.”

About the Facility

The state-of-the-art, three-story facility is 91,000 square feet with free, convenient parking for patients. The building includes patient exam rooms as well as on-site imaging diagnostics, physical therapy and rehabilitative care, an outpatient orthopaedic ambulatory surgery center, a research center and more.

Project leaders expect to have approximately 150 employees, including 14 orthopaedic surgeons. That total number of employees could expand to 180 with growth of the facility. Team members at center will care for around 225-275 patients a day for surgery, clinic, imaging and therapy.

The first floor of the three-story building serves as the ambulatory surgery center including five operating rooms and an advanced imaging center. The second floor houses University Orthopaedic Surgeons’ practice and OrthoTennessee physical therapy. The third floor houses 17,000-square-feet of space for orthopaedic and other medical research, which project organizers describe as the ideal fit for the mission of the research park.
