Background
Clinical Interests:
Dr. Boukovalas is dedicated to providing personalized, compassionate and evidence-based care to all of his patients. His clinical interests include cancer and trauma reconstruction, microsurgery, lymphedema surgery and cosmetic plastic surgery. He has expertise in complex reconstructive procedures, including DIEP and PAP flaps for breast reconstruction, neurotized free flaps, virtual surgical planning (VSP), targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) and lymphovenous bypass surgery using super-microsurgery techniques.
Personal Interests:
Dr. Boukovalas loves exploring new destinations, traveling and cooking. To remain active, he enjoys hiking and swimming. He also has a passion for music and enjoys playing the piano in his free time.
Research Interests:
Academically, Dr. Boukovalas has a strong interest in research and surgical education. He is a candidate member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery (ASRM). He has participated in several national scientific committees and has served as a member of expert task forces, contributing to guideline development and patient care quality improvement. Dr. Boukovalas has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and five book chapters, and has presented his research in multiple regional, national and international conferences. He is the recipient of prestigious research and teaching awards, including the Resident Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), Outstanding Plastic Surgery Resident and the ASRM Outstanding Paper Awards.
